Imagine a free standing abstract form shoji, a wide accent strip going up a wall, across the ceiling and down the other wall in beautiful exotic woods, an accent piece in wooden flooring that reflects the design used in the logo, a traditional series of panels that add to the sobriety and formality of an enviornment , a dining table in a Hawaiian quilt design, or a more contemporary table that comes with a series of inserts of different designs which can be removed and changed according to seasons, moods or use of the table. Cabinets completely transformed by marquetry or a huge mural in local woods- all this and endless other possibilities are what I am proposing on this site. I am an artist who has just returned to Hawaii after seven years studying and working with marquetry and marquetry masters in Italy, the country that remains the undisputed leader in this art form as well as the major producer of the beautiful wood veneers that are used to create it.
Marquetry is an exciting untapped art form that is especially relevant in a world that demands innovation and flexibility in design along with a truly conscientious use of the planet’s natural resources. It is unconfined by shape or size, can be used on all surfaces-floors, walls, ceilings, furniture, accents. It can be a surprising and dramatic element in a new design or a cost effective way of redesigning an existing interior space.
Today’s buildings are being designed with a new consciousness: the planet’s resources used in creating the product, the carbon footprint made in production, and environmental impact the eventual disposal of the product have all become serious considerations. Our products address all of these issues: Juli Morsella’s marquetry work done with thin wood veneers which utilize a minimum of these precious woods to maximum effect, local woods are used as much as possible, by far most of the production of the individual pieces is done by hand as I create all my designs completely by hand using no power tools. Energy is used only in the final process or pressing , sanding and cutting the backboard.
We use low VOC emission mastics exclusively, and plywoods and other backing systems that are certified as having been produced with low VOC emmission producs, or with FSC chain of custody certifications.
As a company, we are committed to countering our carbon print through donations to carbon offset projects and are continually seeking out new Greener products to use or propose in our projects. We are dedicated to producing art that, by the time it reaches the client, has a zero carbon print and is produced with materials that do not have an adverse effect while in use, or the environment when disposed of.
